Coolness! How much different is it from Live Journal, anyway?

I find it easier to use than LiveJournal once I understood it. The paid journals cost a little more, and some people complain about not having enough style options. But I really like the more practical features like the ability to easily cross-post to LiveJournal or another journal and include footers on those posts. I like the ability to slurp in the content of your LiveJournal without much of a hassle at all.

The down side is that I haven't found the great communities as I had here because it is not quite as big and that the people I like to read have not transitioned to being there so I read them here.

Other negatives are that if you posted videos to your LiveJournal, the API for LiveJournal strips out the video embedding code when it transmits your entries so those entries will not be quite right. (This also happens if someone replies to an entry with a video. You will typically see your entry quoted in a reply but the part where there was a video says something like lj embed or something.) When you do something like a typical user tag like itzwicks there, it links to the dreamwidth account there even if the person you are talking about doesn't necessarily have a dreamwidth account so I started referring to people by their handles but without the appropriate tagging. This makes it more difficult for people to see that I am talking about them. I wish there was a way for me to use the user tags to differentiate whether I mean someone there or here, but I haven't figured out a way around that yet. (Admittedly, I haven't looked too hard.)

But those were the major features and issues that I noticed.

All great points. I have established the new beach head, and will eventually play with the settings. In the meanwhile, you can find me as itzwicks, as always. ;-)

I added you as a friend, but lately I write long things (which will stop in a few weeks for reasons that will be obvious if you read any of my recent friends only entries) and I usually disagree with itzwicks's politics. I don't usually write much about politics though.
