I'm doing everything within my power to ensure that in the next 20 years, two out of the nine justices will be members of the Blue Man Group.

That's something everyone should consider when voting, whether decisions have been close or not.

The 2012 election is problematic to me, as I sit here in the Virginia mountains watching the national Republican Party alternate betwixt shooting itself in the foot and public seppuku.

My voting strategy is very simple. Don't vote for anyone with Republican as their political party. Or uses the word 'conservative' as part of their philosophy. Both are clearly anathema to my profession considering how they lean on relevant issues. ^_~`

What's your profession, and how would conservatives or Republicans harm it?

I'm a science fiction and fantasy illustrator. Which means I have a tendency to draw scanty clad girls in provocative poses. And members of either of those two groups are always attempting to put forth laws that promote nonsensical morality and censorship. Which, as rigidly as the morality cops try to promote their rules, generally attempts to put folks like me out of business.

Best way to keep myself in business, is to make sure not to vote for people that interfere in my business. :)

My child is transgender FTM and the "conservatives" I know are way more accepting than the professed "liberals". I'm not sure that you can stereotype that way unless you have been the actual recipient of such prejudice.

I'm not even sure of whether it is correct to categorize anyone in such a sweeping way.

Just my observation.

Well, I can only speak to my experience, but I have been the victim of the morality police, and its never been from the liberal side of the aisle. Its rare that anyone steps up for office that's entirely what I want. But I know exactly what I don't want, and have no problem voting against it. ^_^

And we can only speak from ours......

I'm waiting (though I'm getting impatient) for people to treat people as human beings and not labels. It's hard.

I also believe that people should be free to practice their art without prejudice as long as they are not hurting anyone...

Well that's the unfortunate part of actually being part of a party. People become their labels via the force of peer pressure group think. Its very comforting being part of a gang, for most at least. These labels tend to become a religion of their own all too often. So I vote against those who adopt certain labels that don't work for me.

I agree. But unfortunately those put in the position to make the decisions on law and government tend to not be so courteous.

Thankfully, I've never been a member of a political party. I'll pass on that steez.

But as an addendum, I just want to add that what people say is not always what they feel. On both sides.

Completely apart from politics, people say things that they don't necessarily mean. Because they're weak.

If you haven't noticed, Roberts organizes the decisions so they make the really obvious ones first and the really controversial ones last so they have some decisions where they all agree and some that come out very close.
